24. December 2018 - 24. decembra leta 1524 je v indijskem mestu Kochi (Cochin) umrl portugalski pomorščak, raziskovalec in admiral Vasco da Gama. Bil je star 55 ali 64 let, saj točne letnice njegovega rojstva ne poznamo (1460 ali 1469). Pokopan je v samostanu Jerónimos v portugalski prestolnici Lizboni.
