2. decembra 2018 - 2. decembra leta 1823 je ameriški predsednik James Monroe med tradicionalnim letnim nagovorom kongresa objavil poslanico, bolj znano kot Monroejeva doktrina. Bila je uradna politika ZDA v boju proti evropskemu kolonializmu v Severni in Latinski Ameriki.
